Application Process and Link
Applications for the Commodores Cruise Invitational are processed in the order received. We sell out every year, so please submit your application as soon as possible. There are also a limited number of scholarships. Both buttons are below.
Note that applying for ComCruise is a 5-step process.
1) Submit your application. Once you click the button below, you will be taken to the Google Application Form. You will need your BSA ID number to complete the form. You can get that at My.Scouting.org.
2) Make your deposit payment. Make your payment AFTER you complete the Application Form. Be sure to review our Refund Policy before making payment.
3) Upload ALL of your ‘Required Forms’ to our custom PForMS system. A list of Required Forms, PForMS upload link, and instructions will be provided at the appropriate time. You will be notified via email when the Required Forms are available for download.
4) Make your final payment by the final payment deadline. All deadlines are listed on the ‘Timeline’, which you can always find in the Navigation bar above. Any updates to the Timeline will be posted on this website.
5) Approval required. Your application, final payment, and Required Forms must ALL be reviewed and approved before you are officially registered. No exceptions.
NOTE: Be sure to review the Timeline and pay attention to the Deadlines.
Selection Criteria
The Selection Criteria for joining ComCruise include the following:
1) A positive mental attitude. We can teach you the skills of sailing. You have to bring a positive, flexible mindset. Things change when sailing, especially due to weather. Change is part of the adventure.
2) Willingness to follow all safety protocols and VBO instructions, including wearing PFDs when necessary, the Buddy System, etc. Safety is paramount.
3) Priority goes to people with specific safety training, such as Wilderness First Aid (WFA), ARC Lifeguards, etc. Especially valuable are EMTs, Paramedics, and Nurses. See the WFA page for details about this certification.
4) Significant sailing experience is valuable, but not required. We always have people with a limited amount of sailing experience – including several people who have never been on a sailboat before! However, we do need a certain number of people with significant sailing skills on each boat. This is for the safety of the entire crew.
5) Ability to meet all deadlines listed on the Timeline page.
6) Willingness to live and ‘work’ on a sailboat with constant motion and cramped quarters … while making new friends and having more fun than you might think possible.
Our Four Principles on the About page summarize these criteria.
NOTE: Fill out the application BEFORE making your payment. Very important.
After completing your Application above, click the Payment button below to pay your deposit and select your Optional Activities.
Scholarship Application
There are a limited number of $500 scholarships available. If you would like to join ComCruise, but need assistance to do so, please complete the Scholarship Application by clicking the button below. A Scholarship Committee will review your application. Scholarships are awarded based on merit and need.
Scholarship Committee decisions are sent out via email usually within two weeks of your submission. All decisions by the Scholarship Committee are final.
Note: You must first submit the regular ComCruise Application above to be considered for a Scholarship. When applying for a Scholarship, pay the $297 deposit only (and select any Optional Activities). The scholarship is for $500. If you are not awarded a scholarship, your deposit will be refunded, irrespective of the deadlines in the Refund Policy. All other items in the Refund Policy apply.
